Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life?

Monday, December 29th, 2008

I have been thinking and reading a lot lately about changing my thoughts and how powerful that whole concept can be in making tremendous life changes.  Especially having to do with our relationship with food… but more about that in a minute.

The fact of the matter is, The Secret has taught us that what we think about can greatly contribute to what we create in our life.  Then we learned that you can not just think something into existence.  You must take action to make it happen.  That makes good sense.

So now let me through something new and exciting into the mix that will illustrate the concept even more.  Think about a radio.  At the lower end of the tuner are the stations like 88.1 FM and at the upper end are the stations like 106.5 or whatever.

Now here’s the idea… our feelings and thoughts can be placed on a scale similar to the tuner of a radio.  So when we feel down, depressed, beating ourselves up, etc… those feelings and thoughts would be in the lower range of frequency or vibration.  Then the happier, joyful, self confident thoughts and feelings would be where?  Of course, on the higher end of the tuner.

Then the real important part to believe is that wherever you are on that tuner or wherever your thoughts and feelings are at on a vibrational level, you will be mingling with other things on that same frequency.  So if you feel lousy and you keep running  in to things that keep you feeling lousy, could it be that at the level you are vibrating, that’s all you have access to.  If that is the case, then all you have to do is change your thoughts to a higher vibration and see what you start bumping into up there!

Ask yourself, what is the best feeling thought I have access to right now?, and change your thought to that.  You will automatically increase your frequency for the better!

It just makes such good sense to me.  I tried it today when I was out walking and the thought of something that has been really frustrating me lately came back into my mind.  I stopped, checked in and could feel that I was feeling worse than just a few moments ago, so I changed my thoughts and I felt better.

Now, think about the times when we reach for food because we are lonely, angry or bored?  What if we could proactively change the thought to something that felt better and made it much easier not to eat something that will ultimately make us feel worse about ourselves anyway?  Do you see the magic in this?  It will take practice and effort, but how much effort is it every day to fight the urges, bad thoughts about ourselves and inner conflict?  Doesn’t even compare when you put it like that hey?

What a great tool to keep joy in each and every moment possible!

Happy New Year to us all!

What a fun idea!

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

This guy had a great idea and he ran… or should I say, ate with it! His goal was to eat a different cultures food every day for as many days in a row as possible… and he made it to 102 days! What a fun way idea that no one has done before.

Click here to read about it.

I love it when people enjoy food enough to make it fun. The real trick is being able to enjoy food and not get fat and unhappy. That is the relationship that needs to be created with food and it’s what my book focuses on more than anything else. How do you make friends with food so you can eat, enjoy and not get fat?

Let me in on your thoughts.

Holiday Treats are Making Me Crazy!

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

I am always amazed at how many chances there are during the holidays to eat more than enough calories and sugar in one sitting. Just go to visit any office or store in the area and people are handing out Christmas treats and cookies and candy! How is anyone supposed to stay healthy?

More than willpower is needed to keep you from partaking in these devilish treats at the holidays. You need to understand that your body can’t take all that sugar and refined white flower. It is literally harmful for your body and your entire organ system. That is the truth of it and sometimes the truth is the only thing that really matters!

So can you eat some? Yes, eat some, but not the entire plate full. Better yet?… just have a bite or a piece of it and that’s all. Give yourself the pleasure of tasting it, but be smart and healthy and leave the rest for someone else to try.

The holidays are also a time when we seem to forget to drink pure, clean water either because it’s cold and wet out or because we are more likely drinking sodas and other beverages more suitable for a celebratory occasion. This has a grave impact on your body also. Not only are you depriving your system of the much needed fluids it needs to operate effectively, but you are putting the additional strain of the added stuff you are putting in your body, such as more sugar and calorie laden foods. If you want to try to survive this time of year better, you should actually drink more water than usual.

Most of all, remember that the holidays come around every year and you will have another chance to eat another piece of pecan pie or that famous fudge you love so much. It will be here again… so you needn’t be afraid that you may never taste it again. Relax, have a smaller taste of it and enter the new year with less weight than you may have if you hadn’t made sensible choices.

It really is a choice!

Happy Holidays!!!

The Top 2 New Years Resolutions Every Year

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

We are about to ring out the old and in with the new year and along with that comes our resolutions to do better, be healthier, make more money, be kinder, exercise regularly and more. Why is it that we decide to fall into the trap of making resolutions or commitments at the beginning of every year that rarely get kept? Is the whole idea of New Years resolutions becoming a continuous set up for failure and disappointment?

When you look at the top 2 resolutions that occur throughout the world every year it is consistently: make more money and get in shape/lose weight. Over and over again, people decide that this is the year they are going to finally live the life they really want to live. Get healthy, take off that excess weight, eat better, exercise often and all the benefits that this healthy lifestyle affords will be theirs. We see a huge increase in the activity at local gyms, YMCA’s, walking/running paths and sales of exercise equipment soar after the new year. Only to be brought right back to the normal flow around Feb 15th as statistics seem to show.

So what is it that makes people 1) make the resolution in the first place over and over again and not really wake up to the fact that they keep making the same commitment and keep failing? 2) why do people quit? Why do people give up and why is it easier to go back to the old unhealthy lifestyle when getting and being healthy has so many rewards? I am perplexed.

I welcome your insight and comments.

Here’s to a happy holiday season to all!

Even celebs who can afford to hire private chefs, personal trainers and other self help guru’s still can’t stay thin like they want to be! Guess What? It’s not about food… It’s about cleansing and nutrition!

If you haven’t already heard, Oprah is ‘embarrassed’ about putting back on 40lbs over the past 4 years and reaching her current weight of 200lbs. How can America’s #1 talk show host who is loved and revered by so many, has access to the everything and anything anyone could want or need and still she can’t stay thin and happy like she was 4 years ago when she weighed in at a healthy 160? How is this possible?

I have to believe even more now that it’s not about what we eat, it’s about good nutrition and cleansing the body to remove the impurities so our system can function at it’s best and has the ability to process and then utilize the nutrition we provide it with! I’m even more convinced than every before.

Cleansing our body with the proper nutritional cleansing program helps keep the body healthy and is absolutely the missing link to supporting health and successful, long-term weight loss. Then replenishing the body with the highest quality nutrients helps to revitalize the body’s systems, leading to vibrant good health, a simple weight maintenance program and a better quality of life!

Here is just a snippet of what she had to say about her weight gain:

“I didn’t follow my own fundamental rule of taking care of self first,” Winfrey owns up.

She says she hit bottom April 26 when she nearly skipped a taping in Las Vegas with Cher and Tina Turner.

“I felt like a fat cow. I wanted to disappear,” writes Winfrey, whose body mass index of 31.8 is considered obese by the Centers for Disease Control.

I feel Oprah’s pain and have been there too many times myself. Not this time though! I finally have a program that can keep me thin and feeling great for life.

If you would like to learn more about what program I recommend, feel free to contact me directly at lisa@whybeingfatsucks.com.

How You View the World and How the World Views You

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

How do overweight people compare themselves to the rest of the world? Do they see it as an “us versus them” entity, or are they really comfortable fitting into a society that profits from exploiting thinness? How does the health food craze fit into the reality of those who are overweight?

Those are some weighty questions (excuse the pun!). They certainly are too significant to be ignored because the answers show that overweight people often see a stark difference between themselves and the world around them. That difference is based on a lot more than body weight.

Everywhere we turn, we see advertisements touting lean, sexy bodies. The message is clear: To be sexy, you need to look like this. To be attractive, you need to look like a pinup girl, or worse yet, to be worthy of someone’s attention, your body must meet a certain mold. Those ads are intimidating, and they do separate overweight people from the rest of society. As a result, they categorize them into an unhealthy, unattractive group.

Do heavy people envy thinner people? Yes! Even if we can’t admit it to ourselves, the green monster is there, watching people live the lives we wish we were living. We seek inclusion into what we perceive their world to be—more exciting, enticing, and deserving than the world we’ve created for ourselves. Did I say deserving? Yes, I did. Not only do overweight people condemn themselves because of their weight, but they also use their weight to justify the fact that they don’t deserve the same happiness, love, and advantages they see in their slimmer counterparts. That is so untrue, by the way.

Because of my weight, I isolated myself from the world, choosing to protect myself from participating in it. It seemed that when I did participate, I often felt like an outsider looking in. Actually, you could say that I felt like more of an observer than a full-fledged member of the groups I engaged in. One of the main reasons for this is the belief I held that people were always judging me, and in a negative way, simply because I was fat.

Society frowns upon people who are overweight. They aren’t accepted as easily or readily as healthy weight people. I knew that because, like so many others, I was a victim of it. I was a victim of my own judgments, as well as those of the people around me. The media makes us think that we are the minority—that the majority of the people in our world are thin and sexy. However, the opposite is quite possibly the truth. The number of overweight people in this country are significant. While we perceive ourselves to be alone, we most definitely are not.

Overweight people also have a vivid imagination. They often view the world entirely different than the one which they live in. Like separating the men from the boys, they place a defining line between fat and skinny. We’re either one or the other; there’s no in between. But, that’s not always true. There are so many people who are on the borderline, somewhere between being “average” and overweight. There are many people who continually go back and forth between one and the other as they lose weight and fall back into old habits only to regain it again. In reality, many people in the world have experienced both sides of the weight scale. If we acknowledged that, maybe we wouldn’t feel so alone. Maybe, just maybe, we wouldn’t be so hard on ourselves.

We also mistakenly believe that everyone, everyone, has negative thoughts about us simply because of our appearance. The truth be told, some do, but everyone doesn’t. Again, we almost set ourselves for a “me against the world” perception, which is one that understandably is impossible to win! By believing that we have so many people and things against us, we set ourselves up for certain defeat.

Are you setting yourself up to be caught in the battle of me against the world? Let me know your thoughts.
