She called it ‘discrimination’ – the store owner called it ‘increased cost of doing business’ with fat people!

I call it a sad state of affairs…  Stop the madness!

When will people begin to take responsibility for themselves and deal with the consequences of their actions and choices?

*Umm… this is a sensitive topic… weight. Well, a woman in Dekalb County, Georgia had a pretty embarrassing moment at a local nail salon.

Michelle Fonville got a pedi and mani, and got her brows done. And when she was handed the bill she got a very unpleasant surprise – a $5 surcharge.

At first she was a bit confused about the bill and informed the person in charge, saying there was a mistake made.

She was corrected by the salon manager, who told her it was no mistake. It was a new charge they established for overweight people.

Yes, for fat people. She explained to the customer who nearly broke down in tears, that people who exceeded the 200-pound capacity for the salon chairs were costing her big money to keep those chairs in operation – $2,500 each!

Obesity Is Bad for Your Brain

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

Imaging tests revealed that, compared with seniors of normal weight, obese seniors had 8% less brain tissue… and their brains appeared 16 years older, on average, than the brains of peers who were not overweight. Seniors classified as overweight had 4% less brain tissue and their brains appeared eight years older. Affected brain areas included those critical for memory, attention and movement. Implication: To protect your brain health and decrease dementia risk, maintain a normal weight.

Can you think your Metabolic rate up?

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

I lay awake in bed last night wondering if indeed the mind is powerful enough to make my body believe that my metabolic rate is speeding up and that I will soon be burning much more energy and FAT! than I am intaking!  I visualized it and kept thinking about it while I lay there.  Of course, all the while, feeling my oh-so-doubtful one saying “It’ll never work” in the background!

But I believe we create our reality from our thoughts and I am going to think better thought!

What do you think?

You Have To Make Peace With Where You Are!

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

The more we fight against with our un-wanting and frustration and discontent that which we are wanting to change, the stronger it exists in our life!

If you really want a lean healthy body to live in … then you have to start putting your attention on what you want and stop focusing on what you don’t want.  Sounds logical right?  Simple, not really!  Worth the effort, undoubtedly!

It’s really a simple concept to grasp and once you understand this you can apply it to all areas of your life:

That which you put your focus on grows and expands in your life.  So if you are focused on how fat you are, how much you need to lose weight and more, guess what you end up with?  More of it.  More being fat, more reasons to need to lose weight and more pain, anguish and self hatred!

If you start to accept where you are, just come to be at peace with it, you can then change your focus to what you really want to have, do or be.  If you can become peaceful about it and then actually start to believe you will be able to get healthy someday, and you will, then you start having more empowering thoughts about your body, your health, your choices and much much more!

Try it!  Let me know your results.

Cheers!

Living the Life You Want Starts with this One Word…

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

Change…the utterance of this word often sends shivers down our spine…but once we embrace the power that change can bring…we can move forward and create the life we want!

Does change seem like a unreachable dream?

Does change seem like a unreachable dream?

In my own journey to improve my life, I’ve spent a lot of time trying to understand why it’s so difficult to make changes that add so much to our self esteem, confidence and the quality of our lives.  (more…)

Time Passes So Quickly!

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

We barely even realize it’s happening except when we try to do things like get in shape, lose weight or stop other annoying and unhealthy habits.  When we do this, time seems to creep by and the success that is always “over time” seems to be way off in the distance!

Sad but true, all good things in life take time and effort.  It’s the easy things that are no good for you and cause you physical and emotional distress.  Take “fast food” for instance.  It’s fast and it’s loaded with empty calories and FAT!  It tastes good and it’s NO GOOD for you!

We as a society need to realize that it’s time to slow down and smell the roses.  We need to slow down and appreciate our body for the phenomenal finely tuned machine it is meant to be.  In fact, so finely tuned that each of us needs to pay much closer attention to what the body needs for nutrition if we hope to enjoy a quality of life later on that is mostly pain free, illness free and you are able to enjoy everyday life.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

Be happy, be healthy and slow down!

Talk to you soon.

Change happens!

“Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.” – President Barak Obama

I am so moved by this quote I had to share it with you.

There is no person or thing that will change your life for you in ways that you are so longing for other than you. You are the change you are looking for. You are the one.

I recently heard this metaphor about change that I also want to share with you: If you want milk, you can’t just go stand in a field and wait for a cow to come up to you… you have to seek it, find it and get it!

Hope you are inspired to take action on making that changes that you really really want in your life… starting NOW!

All my best to all of you!

We can’t move forward till we take responsibility for our actions and the consequences.

In a conversation with an acquaintance today, he asked if I thought this health care “thing” would work or not in this country. I had to be honest, until people start taking full responsibility for their own health and well being instead of thinking that others need to take care of them… we will never be able to have a national health care system that is fair and works.

It’s a complicated issue, but it also can be simplified by tracing back the roots of the problem. If a person is not willing to do what they need to do to attain and then maintain good health, who is responsible for that situation? They are.
We have too many people in our country with a mindset that others should take care of them instead of them taking care of themselves.
What would this country be like if people took ownership and full responsibility of who they are, what they do, how they think, what they say, how they act and the beliefs and values that they live their life by?

You are being honest when you…

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

• Say what you mean and mean what you say

• Do your own work to the best of your ability

• Tell a friend the truth

• Keep your eyes on your own paper

• Give the cashier the extra money she gave you by mistake

• Write a report in your own words instead of copying

• Admit you made the mistake

• Keep a friend’s secret

• Turn in a wallet full of money that you found

• Admit your faults to yourself and do your best to become a better person

and more…

My most profound day of complete honesty with myself came the day I admitted I was really unhappy with what I had allowed myself to become and that Being Fat Sucks!

What is honesty?

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

* Honesty is telling the truth.

* Honesty is straightforward conduct.

* Honesty is being sincere, truthful, trustworthy, honorable, fair, genuine, and loyal with integrity.

Have we blurred the lines between truth and honesty so much in this world that it is sometimes hard to identify the meaning to ourselves?
